The WA Government's July 2026 consultation on solar, battery and EV charger connections closed on 18 August. Energy Policy WA has since published 23 submissions and a summary of the feedback. This article retains the original consultation dates; the September outcome report covers the next stage.
Seven connection proposals
Energy Policy WA, part of the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification, released the issues paper on 20 July 2026. Its seven proposals addressed data quality and connection timeframes for distributed energy resources on the South West Interconnected System (SWIS), building on household connection rule changes made in December 2025.
The department sought feedback on early policy proposals, not a final set of amended connection rules.
Submission deadline
The submission deadline was 5pm AWST on Tuesday 18 August 2026. The department's consultation page now records this stage as closed.

Closed consultation. Submissions ended on 18 August 2026. The department published feedback in September; the proposals are not enacted rules on the strength of that report.

Feedback published
The consultation page, updated on 14 September 2026, says proposals 1 to 5 will inform an exposure draft of changes to the Electricity System and Market Rules. Proposals 6 and 7 remain under discussion with stakeholders.
The department plans another consultation on that draft before recommending final changes to the Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation. Publication of the feedback does not itself change connection requirements. The WA solar and battery compliance centre separates current requirements from proposed changes.
